Toshiba Laptops and Netbooks
Last updated on 11/29/2010
Toshiba have become a big maker of great, reliable mainstream notebooks and netbooks, as well as a popular line of business notebooks. Of all the major laptop manufacturers, Toshiba models were found to have the second-lowest rate of malfunction within three years at just 15.7%, only 0.1% lower than Asus, the top brand--that's a finding worth bragging about. Most Toshiba models come highly recommended from LaptopAdvisor, whether they're for personal computing or business use. They're not the sexiest computers out there, but they work well and rarely break. Double check the reviews on specific models before purchasing, of course, but in general, you can feel confident going with this brand. Here are some highlights among their current lineup.
Toshiba’s Satellite series is extremely diverse – it includes portable little 11.6-inch units for business users, affordable 15.6-inch units for casual users, monster 18.4-inch units for media enthusiasts, and dozens of other notebooks that fall in between. What all Satellites share in common, however, is affordability and reliability. Regardless of what your needs are (power, portability, monitor size, or just a good basic machine), Toshiba offers a Satellite that will suit your needs without forcing you to break the bank. A good example is the Satellite L645D, a 14-inch laptop that is about as reliable, affordable, and middle-of-the-road as they come.
The Qosmio may look a bit gaudy, but it’s a multimedia and gaming powerhouse. These notebooks come with a ton of cool features and gadgets, including an 18.4” HD screen, an nVidia graphics card, a Blu-ray player, and an Intel i7 processor. The Qosmio isn’t a very portable machine, but it’s powerful enough to deliver spectacular multimedia entertainment and handle anything else you may want to throw at it.
The Tecra series is built for professionals who need powerful, reliable, and durable computers. These 14-inch and 15-inch notebooks combine above-average portability with powerful performance. The A11 is a perfect example. This 15.6-inch notebook comes with an Intel i5 processor (for superior multitasking), a widescreen backlit HD display, and a powerful Nvidia graphics card.
The Portege series is all business. These stylish 12 and 13-inch laptops are thin and light, but they still offer the power of a multi-core processor. So if you need above-average power, but the Tecra series isn’t portable enough for you, the Portege could be a perfect fit. Toshiba's R700 is the latest model -- this little 13.3-inch notebook is powered by an Intel i3 processor and still gets more than 8 hours of battery life.
Toshiba Mini netbooks are powered by Intel Atom processors, and they get battery life in the 8- to 10-hour range. Starting at just $300, the Mini is an excellent option if you’re looking for an on-the-go computer that can handle basic functions. Toshiba's 255 model features a full-sized keyboard and 3 USB ports – not bad for a 10.1-inch device.
The Toshiba Libretto straddles the line between tablet and netbook. This device does away with the traditional monitor/keyboard setup. Instead, it features two touch-sensitive 7-inch screens. The Libretto is expensive, but it’s unique, extremely portable, and as powerful as any netbook. If you just want a cool on-the-go device and the iPad isn't really your style, the Libretto is an option worth checking out.

I always had Dell computers is this very different from a Dell Laptop?
I want my money back and never to hear the T word again.Taking legal action to recover.
I highly recommend the Toshiba Satellite L650-11F. Make sure you get and "only" get this model. I swear with all my life you will like this laptop. I played the latest games on this on high settings and can still play the game with no lag. I watched DVD movies from 8 am to 12 am the next day and still performs well. I have a Wi-Max internet connection downstairs and can only get 1 bar signal strength but can still make video calls on Yahoo! Messenger. Its amazing! The screen is crisp and bright and only weighs 2.5 kilos. Battery life is superb too. It can lasts for 4 to 5 hours depending on the brightness of your screen. I really can't find any fault on this machine. Truly the best Toshiba Satellite money can buy. I hope I helped you on making your decision. I rest my case.
Hahahahaha. I bought a laser mouse for $15.00 but rest assured, I'[m reporting Toshiba to Dept. of Agriculture and they should get buried in paperwork. Also reporting to BBB and will post on every site I can find on net about them. It's just ridiculous what these companies are getting away with.
They have had mine since mid January and found "non-warranty" related problems, yeah right. I sent it in for the battery and the plastic mouse, that others have complained about. I was told that they don't keep parts on hand!! They order parts for each individual system. Do you believe this? I liked the computer but will NEVER buy a Toshiba again, ever.
I am trying to find every place I can post about this insane situation. My computer is my work, so don't invest in a Toshiba unless you have a back up system or can afford to be without a computer for months.
