A more budget-oriented gaming laptop than, say, Alienware computers, but no less capable for most gaming uses. It may not keep you up to date as long as the latest M17x model, but you'll be cruising along for at least a few years.

I've seen two reviews indicating that this laptop overheats and shuts down. Are others experiencing this problem? Also, what are your experiences with the touch pad? I've seen mixed reviews.

AUSU G73JH-A1 Laptop Review
(Ray Bennett — 08/15/2010)
Pros:
The ASUS G73JH laptop has everything one could hope for in a gaming laptop; a big screen, a incredibly fast graphics card, lots of RAM and plenty of power to run any game. The design is unique shape that seems to use the heat rises theory to help cool the laptop. The quiet fans help also. I play Everquest II and the ASUS G73JH has no lag problems running at full display settings.
Cons:
The only cons I found were that the Battery Life was very short. This is not an issue if you are using this as a gaming laptop. The USB ports on the right hand side are in the way when using a external mouse. The ports are too low. If they would switch the USB ports to the top and the External Monitor port and the USB3 ports to the bottom it would be much better. Better yet would be to move the power cable connection to the back. I don't think that is possible though with the vents being in the back. The Arrow keys are also so close to the number pad that you miss the arrow keys sometimes and press the numbers instead of the arrow keys. This is all minor stuff compared to the quality of the laptop, the performance from the high end parts and all while being able to sit on your lap without burning your lap like the HP Envy 15 did. The deal breaker is the Synaptics Track Pad. Because of the large size and placement the mouse pad picks up the palms of your hand and moves the curser. The Right and Left buttons under the track pad are very hard to press because ASUS decided to go with looks instead of practicality. They made the track pad buttons one bar that looks good but doesn't work well. It is so hard to press the track pad buttons that it will give you carpel tunnel if you don't already have it from too much gaming. =) You may ask why not just use click function directly on the track pad? Well, I found that the track pad does not always pick up on your finger clicks. It may be from your palms or fingers being too close to the mouse pad, the drivers or the software. I tried everything I could think of to fix this issue with no avail. New drivers, different software, tweaking the software, and making sure I only have one finger on the pad at a time. The track pad will still not always pick up on your finger clicks. So aggravating...
Conclusion:
Very good gaming laptop if you plan to us a external mouse like most gamers do. I ended up buying a Ergonomic Touch Pad http://www.ergonomictouchpad.com and Velcroed it on top of the factory track pad. I had to take away 2 stars because of this. All in all I give this a 3 Star out of 5.
