Welcome
Hello All,I'm Liam, and I've just taken over as editor for Laptop Advisor. In the coming months, there will be some significant changes to the site, but I hope to maintain the level of quality and clarity that Mike maintained in his time as "The Laptop Advisor."
Like him, I consider most laptop and computer sites around the net to be overly technical and utterly unhelpful. What Laptop Advisor is, and should be, about, is presenting information to consumers in a way that truly helps them understand, and isn't entirely devoted to complicated, confusing minutiae that few people care about.
So stay tuned to Laptop Advisor as it grows and evolves. There are a lot of interesting new features I hope to bring to the site that should make things easier to navigate.
Thanks!
Liam/Editor, Laptop Advisor

Are you willing to give me some advice? My old Laptop (which I love) is surely about to die. Blue screens. I'm deep into a client's project . Can't afford to be w/out a Laptop - so I better by now. Ship dates for custom are like 2/1/2012.
I do not want to buy the UGLY new Qosmio Toshiba's - Metal gray case.
I found a MX18 Alienware Super Gaming Laptop. But expensive. My old Laptop cost about $3,500(?). I can get this one for $4,500 if I buy quick
I can send you the specs!!! WHAT WOULD YOU CUT BACK ON to bring the price from down?
I do not know which graphics card is best. Or if a Nividia 580 is 10 times better than a 560. Looks like it's the processor, graphics card and memory that spike the price.
Here is the link where I customized it.
alienware.com/Landings/lapt...
I am a web developer and graphic designer. I want to play games like Witcher 2 and Skyrim.
Also - The MX18 is an 18" screen. I'm 55 YEARS OLD and my eyesight is poor - which does not help in writing code. But my current laptop is 17" and I'm happy with that. So I customized an 17MX Alienware - also attached. It is cheaper. But doesn't look as powerful. The 18MX weighs 11 lbs and the 17MX weighs 9-10lbs.
I DO NOT TRAVEL much at all so mobility isn't important.
Appreciate your advice in advance.

I'm an amateur photographer who edits with Photoshop Adobe Elements and creates slide shows with ProShowGold. I'm planning to buy a PC laptop (first time buyer) for that purpose. What features should I be considering?

Good afternoon,
I am currently working for an online technology superstore to improve their web exposure. My client offers get deals on a wide range technology.
Your site has some great electronic content and I was hoping it would be possible for my client to place guest post on your site. If you have any other similar sites I might also be interested in posting on them too.
I look forward to your response and discussing any opportunities further.
Regards,
Ben Jones

Hi,
I need to buy a laptop with good battery life, but they all have LED backlit screens. I am not sure if this is a big problem for me or not, but I think it might be one of the reasons that I got severe eyestrain and headaches from a new 13" Mac Book Pro that I had to return.
My question is, "do you know of anyone who got eyestrain and headaches with the new MBPs but was able to get another LED backlit computer that did not cause this problem for them?"
I have been looking at the ASUS UL50 because of the long battery life, and portability.
PS. I put an anti-glare film on the MBP and played with the resolution and contrast, but still had eyestrain and headaches when reading on it.

You want to try f.lux - it's a truly amazing free download which removes the blue from your screen at night with the blue turning to a pale pink and hence the brightness which causes the glare disappears. No more sore eyes or headaches.

Maybe you have it somewhere but I cannot find it. I would like to see a database of laptop specs that would enable me to find all the machines that fit my needs. I need a fairly rugged, light machine (approx 1.5Kg) for constant travel and that my normal computing requirements are fairly undemanding. However, for occasional photo-editing, I need to upgrade my reliable, old Latitiude D420, to something with 4GB SDRAM, a graphics card and (maybe) an i5 or equivalent processor.
It would be good if I could search a database to find and compare everything that fits these specs. I was taken aback to find, after a lot of searching, that an Acer equivalent is half the price of the replacement Dell that I was about to buy.

If I were able to list what I wanted in a laptop, would LaptopAdvisor be able to tell me the best choices and price and the best place to buy it?
Thanks!
